Mrs. Wangdhare

History:

A 40-year-old woman presented to Spine Surgery Specialist in Pune Dr. Sangram Rajale with complaints of neck pain for the past 5 months, along with left upper limb radicular pain, which had worsened in the last 2 days. The pain intensified with activity. She had been taking medication for 5 months, but each time she stopped, the pain would return. In the past 5 to 6 days, the pain had become extremely severe. She also reported weakness in her left hand and was unable to sleep due to the intensity of the pain, which brought her to tears. Even simple daily activities like lifting a glass to drink water, eating, or holding a spoon had become very difficult for her. Initially, we tried medication, but it failed to alleviate her symptoms, and a decision was made to proceed with surgery.

Examination Findings:

Sensory Examination:-

  • Reduced sensation over the left C6 dermatome

  • Tenderness over the left trapezius muscle

MRI Cervical Spine :-

Findings of cervical spondylosis

  • Disc degeneration with left paracentral and foraminal protrusion at the C5-C6 level, causing compression of the left exiting nerve root

  • Foraminal narrowing and minimal cord compression noted

SURGICAL PROCEDURE PERFORMED :

  2. Procedure: C5-C6 Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion (ACDF) performed under general anesthesia

Operation Performed:

The patient underwent a left-sided L5-S1 microdiscectomy on 10/09/2024 under general anesthesia, performed by Top Spine Specialist in Pune Dr. Sangram Rajale.

Condition at Discharge:

  1. By the second day post-surgery, the patient reported complete relief from pain. She now states that she is entirely pain-free and has returned to performing all her daily activities as she did 6 months prior.
