History :
A 49-year-old woman came with a complaints of low back pain and pain in both lower limbs (more pronounced on the left side than the right) for one year.
She also was experiencing numbness in both legs and described claudication pain after walking for 2 minutes, and noted that she walked with a forward bend.
She mentioned an increase in pain while getting up from an sleeping to an upright position in bed.
MRI :
At the L4-5 level, there’s a bulging and protrusion of the disc, along with a tear in the outer part of the disc and thickening of a ligament.
This is narrowing the space where the spinal cord is, and it’s also affecting the side openings where the nerves come out.
This compression is squeezing and thickening the nerves themselves.
Operation :
On November 1, 2023, a surgical procedure known as L4-L5 transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion TLIF was conducted under general anesthesia by Dr. Sangram Rajale.
This procedure involved fusing together the L4 and L5 vertebrae in the lower back using bone grafts and implants.
Condition On Discharge :
The patient experienced significant comfort post-surgery, with a noticeable reduction in pain within a few days.
She was able to walk, climb stairs, and attend to her personal needs independently within three days, including showering and using the restroom without assistance.
After a couple of months, she was completely free from pain and able to resume her normal activities, including her job.
