History:
A 58-year-old lady presented to Slip Disc Doctor in Pune Dr. Sangram Rajale with chronic low back pain and both leg pain ( radiculopathy: meaning she had pain, tingling, or weakness in both legs due to nerve compression in the lower back.) She had pain ongoing for three years, worsening over the past month, and was increased by standing and walking. Neuroclaudication ie pain or cramping in the legs during walking that resolves with rest.
She also had bilateral lower limb paraesthesia, ie abnormal sensations like tingling or numbness.
The pain pattern she described, characterized by instability-related discomfort when changing positions such as getting up, sitting down, or turning in bed, suggested issues with spinal stability.
MRI:
The MRI was observed by Back Pain Specialist in Pune Dr. Sangram Rajale showing Grade I anterolisthesis of the L5 vertebra over the S1 vertebra. There were multilevel lumbar disc protrusions, (L3-4 L4-5) levels.
These findings collectively indicate vertebral displacement, fractures, disc abnormalities, and potential nerve compression at various levels in the lumbar spine, along with thecal sac narrowing and a minor cervical disc issue.
Operation:
Condition On Discharge:
Slip Disc Surgery Specialist in Pune Dr. Sangram Rajale conducted a L3-S1 laminectomy with posterolateral fusion on July 13, 2022, using Jayon implants. The procedure, performed under general anesthesia, targeted relieving spinal cord or nerve pressure and stabilizing the spine.
This surgery is typically address issues such as spinal stenosis, nerve compression, and instability, as indicated by the patient’s MRI findings. By removing parts of the lamina and fusing vertebrae, the surgery aimed to alleviate symptoms and improve the patient’s overall spinal health and function.
