Mr. Yallappa

History :

A 75-year-old man arrived at the Emergency Medical Department (EMD) on a stretcher to Spine Pain Doctor in Pune Dr. Sangram Rajale, reporting lower back pain and left lower limb pain for the past two weeks, along with urine issues. The pain was severe, hindering his ability to eat or sit, forcing him to lie on one side continuously.

He had received initial treatment at another hospital. Additionally, he had a history of neuroclaudication lasting up to 5 minutes.

MRI :

At the L5-S1 level: There is a moderate disc bulge that has a tear in the back part of the disc (annular tear) and a herniation that is pushing into the anterior thecal sac. This is significantly narrowing the openings for the S1 nerve roots and causing severe narrowing of the spinal canal.

The herniated disc component at L5-S1 measures 0.6×0.8 cm in size.

Overall, there are structural issues in the lower back causing compression of nerve roots and narrowing of the spinal canal, particularly severe at the L5-S1 level.

Operation :

On October 1, 2023, Dr. Sangram Rajale performed a transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) at the L5-S1 level of the spine on a patient under general anesthesia. TLIF is a surgical procedure that aims to stabilize the spine by removing a damaged disc and inserting implants, specifically using Jayon implants, to promote bone growth and fusion between vertebrae, thus addressing issues like disc herniation and instability.

Condition On Discharge :

Following the L5-S1 transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) surgery performed by Top Spine Specialist in Pune Dr. Sangram Rajale, the patient experienced significant improvements in his health. He was pleased with the surgery’s outcome, as it provided complete pain relief, enabling him to walk the day after the procedure.

Over three months, his urine strength also improved, allowing him to carry out daily activities without pain.

Overall, the surgery had a positive impact on his quality of life, restoring his mobility and reducing discomfort.
